President Barak Obama and the Religious Vote

Well, Barak Obama is yet to announce his candidacy for president, but the combination of the title and the name has a certain ring to it. I know that almost everyone I talk to who is progressive and religious is ecstatic about Obama. He's caught every one's attention and vaulted over the usual suspects, with really only Hillary having the same star-power among Democrats. John McCain is the only current Republican who matches him as well.

The key question is about experience -- though Hillary only has a small head start on him (though she is married to an expert on being president). He's relatively young, but no younger than TR or JFK or for that matter Bill Clinton. Hillary is a baby boomer of the earliest years while McCain hails from a previous generation. Obama, was a kid, not much younger than me, when he was growing up in the 1960s and 1970s. I was 5 when JFK was shot, Obama 2; I was 10 when RFK and MLK were assassinated, Obama was 7. I voted for the first time in a presidential election in 1976 -- for Jerry Ford -- Obama probably voted first in the 1980 election. I expect he voted for Carter, but I don't know that for sure. By the way, 1980 was my last GOP vote (for President).

In any case, it appears that Obama is reshaping the electoral process -- whether he ultimately runs or not. And, believe me that is good. It's time we younger baby-boomers make an impact! And as for the religious vote, well I expect it will continue to grow!

So, check out an interesting analysis of this whole thing in the New York Times.

I'm one of those folks who is ecstatic about Obama, and I hope he does run. If Hilliary beats him out in a primary, she would be brilliant to make him her running mate.

I learned that Obama never flies in private jets but always rides coach so he can talk to the people. I love that.
