Revealing Revelation

What's going on in the world today? Well, let's check out the book of Revelation for more information? Is peace possible in Israel? Well, why should we pray for that? Doesn't Revelation tell us that Armageddon is at hand? Let's push for that!!! No, I don't believe any of that, but apparently there are plenty of people who do.
In today's LA Times Louis Sahagun takes a look at two opposing views of the book of Revelation. In one corner is John Hagee (representing the radical dispensationalists) who is counting down the days until the middle east is a "sea of blood."
Jonathan Kirsch, on the other hand, writes in a new book entitled: A History of the End of the World: How the Most Controversial Book in the Bible Changed the Course of Western Civilization, which gives a more balanced and historically oriented look at this most mysterious of biblical texts. Kirsch reminds us that there have been those in every age who have said -- John's talking about our day.
I'm not sure people read the book itself, but there are plenty of interpreters out there. As Sahagun says:

If the viewpoints of Kirsch or Hagee don't mesh with a reader's belief system, there probably is a book somewhere that does. Even a casual look at amazon.com, for example, produces thousands of titles for commentaries on Revelation — as well as some fiction.

And they tend to carry weighty titles, such as "Controversies in the Book of Revelation: A Comparative Analysis of Premillennial Interpretation." On the other hand, there's also "The Book of Revelation for Dummies."

Oh, my,

Rapture letters to be sent automatically in case of rapture. I just hope that they don't get sent accidentally --you know computers! Could cause a lot of confusion.

Thanks for sharing the link!
