Sad Days at the News Press
Once the city of Santa Barbara had an award winning newspaper. I didn't agree with the oddball editorials coming from the editorial pages, but by and large we got good coverage of local events. Unfortunately those days are now long past and I no longer subscribe. I hope for better days, but it may be long in coming.
The LA Times offers a report on the most recent firings -- 6 in all -- which have decimated the news staff. The report doesn't tell the News Press side only because they refuse to acknowledge any one else. They have developed a fortress mentality and they've hunkered down behind the walls of their lawyers. The article also mentions Craig Smith's blog, which I read regularly and which mentioned my blog and column. And for that I'm thankful.
So, I stand here in support of those who wish to restore integrity to a once great paper.
