Christ the Lord is Risen Today, Alleluia!

As the sun sets this Easter Day, I can say that I had a blessed Easter. We began worship by singing "Christ the Lord is Risen Today, Alleluia!" We sang gustily and "Crown[ed] Him with Many Crowns." Yes, Easter brings with it good news, that while death is all around us, life has the final word.

But let us not get too giddy about this message, because death has yet to give up its claim on us. Consider the news that came through Disciples circles that Disciples pastor, Nancy Copin of Snow Creek Christian Church of Martinsville, VA was murdered in the parsonage. I have no information as to why, but such a message reminds us that life and death remain in a constant struggle. I trust that life will be victorious, but I must take death's call seriously.

Still, Easter stirs us to pursue the cause of life, not just in the heavens, but here on earth! That is a gift of hope.

He is risen, indeed. Alleluia!

The news about Rev. Copin was heavy on my heart yesterday morning. I did not know her, but this is such a small denomination each one feels like a sister or brother.

Glad you had a good Easter. We did, too. We didn't Crown Him this year, and I missed that one.

When someone from the denomination dies in such a sad and tragic way, one can't help but feel impacted. When I shared this with my congregation Sunday, I heard a gasp of unbelief.

Got to have the crown!!! Glad you had a good Easter celebration at South Bay!!
