OPENING DAY!!

Yes, it's Holy Tuesday, but it's also opening day for my San Francisco Giants. From now on every home run counts in Bary Bonds' chase of Hank Aaron's record. Taking nothing away from Hank, if Willie Mays hadn't played all those years in Candlestick he'd likely have passed Ruth long before Hank. But now Barry is on Hank's heals and no one outside the Giants family is excited. Whatever Barry did or didn't do, it's likely that by mid-season he'll have passed Hammerin' Hank -- unless of course Bud Selig has ordered Barry to be walked intentionally every time he comes to bat. But that's just one part of the saga.

What will the Giants season look like under new manager Bruce Bochy? The pundits pick the Giants to finish well back in the race, but you never know what will happen until all the games are played. The Giants have the makings of a great Rotation led by youngster Matt Cain and not all that old veteran and now highest paid pitcher ever, Barry Zito. Zito more than Bonds will probably be the key to the season.

So, as the Giants take the field today, I'm holding out hope, hope that they'll return to the Series and take care of unfinished business. 2002 still sticks in the craw. So close, so close.

Go Giants!!!
