The GOPers Keep on Looking
Conservative pundit William Kristol insists that in the 2008 election the War will triumph over Change, and thus a Hawkish GOPer will beat off a challenge from a Dovish Democrat preaching Change. The problem so far for the GOP is that they can't seem to find a candidate they like. Giuliani is a law and order type, but he seems too much a Machiavellian and he's surely not in the right place with Social Conservatives. McCain, well, his time has come and gone. And then there's Mitt, who seems to be trying too hard to be a Christian Conservative.
Who is the great hope? Fred Thompson, currently starring as the NY DA! Well, last night he had his chance to wow the GOP in a speech that was hyped by many beforehand, seems to have, well, flopped. Robert Novak writing in the Washington Post this morning seems to have been rooting for Fred to emerge, but he reports his great disappointment. This isn't the Great Communicator Redux after all!
So, maybe change (Obama maybe) will beat Hawkish GOP after all.

I'm in complete agreement -- both on the GOP and on dynasty fatigue. I've got some other issues with Hillary but more than anything we need new blood and 8 more years of Clinton after 8 of a second Bush. And to think the GOP would love to have Jeb running. I think both Obama or Edwards should be able to take these too over the top!
