Mel White speaks on Jerry Falwell

Last night I watched Anderson Cooper interview Mel White, co-founder of Soul Force, about Jerry Falwell -- the person for whom he served as ghost writer, prior to his own awakening on his homosexuality. He appeared right before Franklin Graham who almost fawned over Jerry as if he was his second father. In fact he sounded more like Jerry than Billy.

Here is the Youtube feed of Larry's interview.

I found this to be one of the most helpful conversations about Falwell and his influence. At one point in the interview with Cooper, Mel said that Jerry was sincere about his views, but sincerely wrong about them as well.
Here is the Anderson Cooper interview and a background piece.

Thanks for the video links Bob. I thought that Mr. White's comments were tactful and help shed light on the issue. I would find it hard to be so considerate toward Falwell if I were in his shoes. He is obviously a better man than me (hmmmm... did I just say that?).

Wonderfully done! I also highly recommend Mel White's book, STRANGER AT THE GATE: TO BE GAY AND CHRISTIAN IN AMERICA.

Yes, I've read Mel's book. In fact, at the time I was wrestling with this issue -- after my brother came out -- reading this book was extremely helpful. This is especially true since Mel taught at Fuller -- before my time-- and had pastored Pasadena Covenant Church -- before I attended there during my seminary days.
