Mt. St. Helens Day!

Twenty-seven years ago today, Mt. St. Helens blew its top! I remember this day because I was a senior at Northwest Christian College in Eugene, Oregon when this beautiful snow capped mountain angrily spewed ash and rock into the air. Now we in Eugene didn't get any "stuff", but when I went to Portland a few weeks later the city was still digging out from the blast. I then went to visit a friend in Kelso, WA and the stuff was piled into what looked like snow drifts. What a powerful display of nature's power. If Rainer or Hood or Shasta were to do the same, the damage could be even greater. Oh, my!!
The two pictures are from the same angle. The top is after and the bottom before the eruption. Spirit Lake is in the foreground. Both are Forest Service photos. Click here to see these and other before and after shots.
