Obama Republicans

Remember the Reagan Democrat -- the conservative Democrat who embraced Ronald Reagan and pushed him into office. Now apparently there are now Obama Republicans.
From the Republicans for Obama website we read why:

RepublicansforObama.org is an organization founded by proud party members who all share one important trait— we are Americans first and Republicans second. (Even if it is a close second.) Collectively, we have campaigned, worked for, and voted Republican all our lives, but recognize that our Country needs a new kind of leader at this time. While there will always be important issues on which thoughtful Americans will disagree, there are others that cannot be up for debate— our economic prosperity and our standing in the world.

If you look at the candidates as a whole, only Barack Obama offers a different voice. The Republicans are pretty much retreads and in many ways so are Obama's Democratic challengers. If 2008 is about change of direction, and I think it is, then Obama offers that alternative. He may be young and "inexperienced" -- if you want experience then go with Joe Biden or John McCain. But we've had experience, what we want is a new direction -- like JFK promised in 1960. Now, I'm not saying Obama is JFK, but like JFK Obama offers something new, a new generation of leadership for a new century. It maybe the reason why the polls suggest that Obama leads all comers -- he might not yet be on the top of the heap with the Democratic party regulars, but he attracts the swing voters needed to win a General Election.
So, RFO's welcome to the fold!
