Africa--the forgotten continent

As we rightfully focus our attention on a pair of signficant political races today, I'm reminded that I've really said nothing about the crises in Africa. Africa, in many ways, is the forgotten continent, a continent divied up by colonial powers in the 19th century, but left without any real sense of identity or help in the years since colonialism ended.

It was Rwanda, then Congo, then Kenya most recently, and now Chad. Darfur is a tragic situation. But Africa remains off our radar screens, so that it sinks further into poverty and chaos.

I don't have a good answer for the problems, only that it's time we start paying attention.
