An Anniversary that easily passed us by

Yesterday was the 5th anniversary of the fall of Baghdad, which was marked by an all day curfew.
Do you remember that day when the mob pulled down the statue of Saddam? Who would have believed that five years later we would still be fighting this war and that there would be no end in sight? And of course the cycle of violence continues five years later. This was not fall of the Berlin Wall.
Speaking of Berlin, consider the response to the War in Europe, if five years after the fall of Berlin and the death of Hitler, the allies had still been at war? Yes, the Allies occupied Germany for sometime afterward, but there was no resistance -- except perhaps in the East.
Saddam may be dead, but perhaps he understood what would happen. He said, come on in, and we did, and we're still there.
I said earlier -- we broke it and must figure out how to fix it. Staying here isn't fixing it. Indeed, in many parts of Iraq the Iraqi government feels no need to provide services because we're providing the money. You may have heard about a cycle of dependence -- well we're in that cycle aren't we?
