Freedom, Glory, Be Your Name

As the American nation gets ready to celebrate its Independence for the 234th time, we must not lose sight of others around the world who also struggle for their freedom. In the focus on Michael Jackson, many of us have lost sight of the struggle that is ongoing in Iran. The hardliners are cracking down. They're using "enhanced interrogation methods" to coerce confessions -- confessions that suggest that all of this unrest is simply the work of foreign agents. But a growing number of Iranians know the truth, and we must in our prayers, in our thoughts, in our comments sustain them in their effort. This is not something that can be imposed from outside, as if the United States can overturn a regime. It must come from the hearts and the struggles of the people -- just as it did here two centuries ago.

I share with you a video made by Iranian-Americans who are working to keep the message alive, and reminding us that no matter how much effort is placed on repressing and suppressing the people, the people will find their way to keep the flame of freedom alive.
