I beli...This book is making for good conversation.<br /><br />I believe that religious conservatives tend to be suspicious of community efforts. Most ministerial alliances I've been involved with have very little involvement from Southern Baptist and other more conservative ministers (with exceptions of course). If they feel safe opening up, they'll usually mention not approving of mixing with churches that have women clergy and support gay rights. Or they don't want to associate with "non-Christians" such as Roman Catholics, UUs, and Mormons. <br /><br />I suspect this may flow over into secular volunteering and giving as well. They don't want the "stain of the world" to touch them. <br /><br />Look at the popular religion found in the likes of "Left Behind" and Hal Lindsey. These folks believe the "anti-christ" will be intelligent, a peacemaker, a uniter, and a great communicator. In other words, if someone comes along with all of the right qualities for good leadership, that person must be opposed! <br /><br />These religious conservatives will tend to huddle together against "the world" and consider it an honor when people ridicule them because they are "standing for truth".
