I also agree that the idea of afflicting the comfortable addressed to an audience most of which are affluent by world standards is an unsettling notion. In preparing to preach on this I was struck by how Matthew ameliorates the teaching by "spiritualizing" the conditions while Luke coming down for Luke carries the suggestion of speaking to a real audience in the real world, on our level as it were.
