Why All those GOP Votes for Hillary?

Did that statistic coming out of Mississippi raise eyebrows? I mean, Hillary Clinton beat Barack 3-1 among Republicans. Didn't that seem a bit odd, considering Republicans hate the Clintons? And then there were those Right Wing talk show hosts like Rush telling Republicans to vote for Hillary now that the GOP election is sewn up.
Could it be that Republicans are voting strategically, now that their contest is effectively over, to sow seeds of discord in the Democratic party or to put a candidate on the November ballot they think is easier to beat? I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but trends do speak loudly. Before Ohio and Texas, Obama was winning crossover voters, now Hillary is. Before Texas and Ohio, there was still a race in the Republican Party, but by the time of those primaries were held McCain had things sewn up. Do you really think that Republicans would jump over McCain for Hillary? Why? She's not more conservative than he is. She doesn't have more experience than he does. She's really not the "change" candidate. She's not new blood. So why the sudden upsurge?
These questions are raised and in some ways answered in an interesting Boston Globe article published today. Click here to read.
