Ted Haggard's latest message

The Denver Post publishes what to my reading is an odd e-mail to his former congregation. Pastor Ted reports that he and his wife Gayle went through 3 weeks of intensive psychological work, which he compares to 3 years of work, and they're moving forward. They hope now to earn masters degrees in counseling and help others. They don't say where they're going to get this degree, only that they're doing it online. They will also be leaving Colorado Springs to let the church move forward -- that is by the way a very good idea.

There's no statement about his homosexuality or bi-sexuality, the drug use, just a confession of shame:

Thank you so much for your love and prayers during this horrific time of transition in our lives. For the last three months, I've not been communicative because I've been paralyzed by shame. But as God and people like you forgive me, the sun is starting to rise in my life, I look forward to communicating with greater ease.

I know I had hoped for too much, but I was hoping he would face this squarely and really be of help to others struggling with this issue. But a culture that demands conformity won't allow this. I pray release from the shame.
