Election Eve

With no time to breathe, we face another day of primaries and caucuses tomorrow. The stakes are high and the three states couldn't be more different.
One is in the Northwest state of Washington, where Democrats tend to be liberal, white, and highly educated. Many are young and environmentalism is important. The two senators and the governor are all women. Hillary had already scored the endorsements of Senators Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell, but today Barack scored the endorsement of Governor Christine Gregoire. In Washington, success requires gaining substantial numbers of women. Obama's hope is that his success in caucuses will carry over to this event as well. It won't be easy, but it has possibilities. But as the online headline from the NY Times puts it, "Politics in Washington State are Lively and Puzzling." In other words, anything can happen.

In Louisiana, things are very different. It's a primary, but the largest number of Democratic voters are African American, voters that have turned out in huge numbers for Barack. Louisiana should be a big win. Obama, unlike Hillary, also visited the state. She sent Bill instead.
Finally, there's Nebraska -- one of those plains states that Obama did well in on Tuesday. And as in neighboring Kansas, he's expected to take this caucus.

Of course, I'm hoping that tomorrow will be a great day for Obama. 2 of 3 would be a good day, but a clean sweep would be wonderful. That will be our hope!
