Tim Lincecum -- Cy Young Winner

There hasn't been a lot of joy in Giantsville of late. As a life long, die hard, Giants fan I've seen plenty of ups and downs. I've seen my team go to the World Series, but I've never seen them win. There have been plenty of great players -- Juan Marichal, Willie Mays, Willie McCovey, Will Clark, Bobby Bonds, Barry Bonds, Gaylord Perry, Matt Williams, and more.

But, there is a sign of hope for Giant fans like me. Added to the pantheon of Giant greats is a very young man. Just 24 years of age, Tim Lincecum won this year's Cy Young award, marking him as the best pitcher in Major League Baseball. This is a pitcher who stands just 5'11'', with an odd throwing motion, and just 2 1/2 years out of college. But, can he throw! This summer he went 18-5 for a not very good team. He lead the league in strike outs with 265. He had a 2.27 ERA. If he continues on like this, without injury, oh what a career he will have. And Giants fans will have something to cheer about!

So, Congratulations Tim Lincecum!

As a Twins and Mariners fan I just cannot generate much sympathy for you. However, congratulations to Tim just the same.
