What to do after today's vote?

For a blogger who has been posting a great deal on politics, and I must admit that many of my visitors have come to look at my political postings, I'm wondering what happens next. Oh, I'll keep posting. I'll likely do more ministry/theology stuff. I'll still speak out on political issues as well. Indeed, whoever wins today, as a Christian I must remember that my job is not to seek a place at the table but to speak truth to power.

Among the issues I hope will get addressed in the coming months is immigration. Education is another issue that needs to be looked at. Of course, health care, the economy, and ending the war will be up front. Whoever wins will need to be given some leeway to act. My sense is that the winner will have to govern from the center. For my Democratic friends, don't expect Obama to jump on to an extremely partisan agenda. His politics may be liberal, but his instincts are cautious and pragmatic. I expect him to reach out to Republicans to find ways of finding solutions. In some ways, I even hope that we don't achieve a filibuster proof majority. That might prove to be problematic. In any case, many of the new Democratic Congresspeople will be from conservative districts and will want to move to the center as well. So, whatever your politics, don't expect an extremist agenda. It's just not in the cards!

And finally, although I don't expect a McCain win, as an American citizen, if he should win, he will be my President. I will criticize where necessary and support where possible. But, whoever wins is the President of all the states, not just red or blue states!

Oh, and although my views tend to be liberal, I'm pragmatic and cautious myself. Maybe that's part of the reason why I like Obama so much.

Now it is up to Obama and the Democratic Congress to fix America's problems.

As soon as Obama is sworn in, I intend to begin demanding that he do everything he has promised. I want my free stuff, and I want it now.
