Coulter's Quips

I debated whether to post the Ann Coulter "discussion" of Jews and Christians -- whether we should all be Christians, but thanks to Mike Leaptrott, I found the YouTube edition -- which I'll post below.

First a couple of comments to set it up.

1. The issue of conversion is a difficult one to deal with. I have no problem with the idea that someone who is Jewish might choose to embrace the message of Jesus and follow him as fully as I do, but the question is a broader one and has to do with whether God dumped Jews for Gentile Christians. I don't believe that. I do believe that in Jesus the dividing walls between Jews and non-Jews are brought down (Gal. 3:28).

2. Michael Westmoreland-White raises a question about anti-Semitism in the New Testament in a comment to a previous post on this topic -- and for the most part I agree, but the New Testament can be and often is interpreted in an anti-Jewish way.

3. As you will see if you choose to watch the clip -- Ann Coulter has no clue as to what either Jews believe or Christians for that matter. To say that Jews obey laws and Christians have a fast track is simply incoherent theologically. From the sounds of her comments she could qualify as an antinomian (against law) -- believing that there is no law that applies to Christians, but I always thought the Religious Right stood for moral values. Where does this come in?

So, if you dare, watch the conversation between Donny Deutsch and Ann Coulter.
Perhaps this encounter will stir a larger conversation about the issue of supersessionism and perhaps on the issue of conversion. Might prove interesting -- so watch for further postings.

I fully agree. I believe we must hold together firmly the scandal of particularity, the universal scope of the gospel, and the rejection of supercessionism. How to do this, that's the rub!
