What is the Most Compelling Argument for Christianity?

I get this little email newsletter every day from Christianity Today -- a magazine I used to read but find it less and less interesting over time, which maybe why I'm part of the Christian Century Bloggers Network!

But here is a poll question asked; what is the most compelling argument for the Christianity? The poll offers 6 choices that range from "the exquisiteness of the physical universe" to the "reliability of the Scriptures." What I find interesting, is that although it comes out on top, only 44% of the respondents choose the "life and character of Jesus."

What other reason is there to be a Christian than the life and character of Jesus? Even if you affirm Intelligent Design, that says nothing about Christianity. It only speaks to the creativeness of God (or some other intelligence). The reliability of scripture might have apologetic value, but is it really a reason to embrace Christianity? There are other books -- history books that are reliable but that doesn't make them compelling.

The problem with Christianity isn't that Jesus got it wrong, but that we haven't tried to follow him with any degree of regularity! For me it is Jesus that makes Christianity compelling, even if I've yet to master the walk! Still, I don't get it?
