Thoughts on the VP sweepstakes

For all of those hoping for a quick decision on either Obama's or McCain's VP choices, don't hold your breath. McCain has had plenty of time to get started on this process, but so far hasn't held out a sense of who he'll choose. Likely, he's waiting to see who Obama might choose. Obama must quickly pivot to the General Election race, but he also needs a bit of time to decompress. He says he's going home this weekend and go out on a date with Michelle. Good idea!
As for the VP, he's picked a 3 person team to consider and vet prospective candidates and he will make the final decision
Those who are pushing the Dream Ticket seem to be in for much disappointment -- for several reasons.
1. To give in to the pressure makes him look weak.
2. He will want to find someone he's comfortable with and trusts.
3. He'll look at what areas of his own resume need balance. At one time it was foreign policy, but more likely it's the economy at this point -- but who knows come November. That may or may not be Hillary Clinton.
4. Finally, and most importantly, if Hillary is going to be selected, she'll have to be fully vetted and that will require that Bill Clinton open up his finances and reveal donors. It will also mean that Bill Clinton would have to make concessions as to how and when he speaks and to whom he speaks. In other words, he'll be reporting to the White House. Now, that might have worked if he was First Gentleman, not so likely as 2nd Gentleman. On this read a WSJ piece, that seems to nail this down.
So, who will it be?
My short list would include:
Bill Richardson, (Gov. of New Mexico)
Kathleen Sebelius (Gov. of Kansas)
Janet Napolitono (Gov. of Arizona)
John Edwards (former Senator)
Ed Rendell (Gov. of Pennsylvania)
Ted Strickland (Gov. of Ohio)
Joe Biden (Sen. of Delaware)
Phil Bredeson (Gov. of Tennessee)
Brad Henry (Gov. of Oklahoma) -- Henry is intriguing to me because he's a popular Gov or a very conservative state who backed Obama early on. He's in his 2nd term and is relatively young. Might be an interesting choice.

Jim Webb of VA, Sam Nunn of GA, and fmr. Gen. Wes Clark are all also possibilities. All have their good points, but Edwards gets me so revved up that I want to quit everything and campaign fulltime until Nov. Which I can't.

Clinton lost her chance Tues. night. Because she is waiting to concede, Obama's 10 point bump from winning the primary is on hold. That's just tacky and undermines the general election. She blew it. Even most of her followers have abandoned her todahy.

Well, today both Hillary Clinton and John Edwards took themselves out of the VP running. I'm sad that Edwards made this move, but I understand. He's done that and Elizabeth is getting sicker.
