A Nod to Joe Biden

I've always liked Joe Biden. He tells it like it is. He's loquacious (likes to talk), but there is substance to what he says. He's experienced and pragmatic. He's a realist! He comes from a small state, but transcends it. He's in his mid 60s, has years of experience in Washington. He's not the candidate of change that Obama is, but, and here's the key, he understands the world. On foreign policy issues he has few peers.
E.J. Dionne writes today that Biden, who is Roman Catholic, stems from blue collar roots, and is well known in Pennsylvania, should be at the top of Obama's VP list. I think I agree with this assessment. In fact, he might be the best choice of all. For one thing he'll appeal to the Democratic base. He's had two tries at the presidency so he understands the process of politics. He certainly can't be cowed. He never endorsed until after the closing bell, so he can say that he didn't take sides.
So, unless someone can suggest a better candidate, I put Joe at the top of my list!
For more on why Biden should be considered read Dionne's insightful commentary here.

Pastor Bob, thanks for this good column. I am a Bidenite from way back who was very anxious to see him become president, now a happily reformed Obama supporter who agrees with you that Biden would be a fine VP. The Republicans would have a good time trying to trash Biden, I believe, but he would have an even better time giving it right back to them. While I would hate to lose him in the Senate, the idea of a VP candidates' debate between Biden and any McCain VP possibility I can imagine is just too good to give up. My only hesitation is that Biden would be pretty old to run for president after 8 years as VP, but I think someone else could get on deck and take that spot if necessary.

Thanks again for an upbeat piece!

Very well said, Pastor Bob. I read and also blogged on E.J. Dionne's Op-Ed today. I worked on Joe's campaign. He is everything that Obama will need to produce the change everyone is expecting from Obama.

I have a son who is in the military. Rest assured, my prayers are with he and all of the other men and women who lay down their lives for my continued freedom and liberty. I know, unequivocally if Joe Biden isn't our VP or SOS, with remaining in the Senate and on watch as Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, my son and all of our military forces will have someone making sure that they have everything they need to keep them safe and protected while they are in harm's way.

Having been raised smack dab in the middle of the political arena, I never thought I would see the day when these two topics would be the never-ending headlines during the elections. Of course, I still can't fathom that we have reverted back to a society where racism is more prevalent today than it was back during the civil rights movement in the 60's.

Joe Biden sure found his way to live out the purposeful life that was intended for him. His advocacy on drugs, addiction and recovery, his efforts on behalf of our military, and his work on crime and victims, coupled with his fundamaental values and lifestyle and family values lets him stand out from the crowd.

Blessings to you and yours.
