Obama Soars

In 1860 a one term congressman from the then frontier state of Illinois was elected President. Before he ever set foot in the White House secession was afoot and America was set on a course toward a bloody Civil War. Abraham Lincoln presided over war with the intent to bring unity to a fractured nation.

In many ways we are a fractured nation, red states and blue states, polarized and angry. Some politicians have capitalized on this fact and have tried to manipulate the fears of America to gain and to hold on to power. It is "us" against "them."

Last night a Senator from that same state of Illinois, a young man (he's younger than me) won a mighty victory in the caucuses of Iowa. It was said that a Black man couldn't win in a White state, and yet he did. It was said that at a time of great peril in the world, experience counted, but just as in 1860 the answer said that perhaps what we need is not status quo but someone who can rise to the occasion and inspire Americans to re-engage our better instincts.

Last night in the state of Iowa, Barack Obama won an amazing victory. Indeed, he outpaced his closest rival by 8 points and his biggest rival by 9. You can say what you want about Obama, but he not only beat expectations he beat them big time!

Mike Huckabee apparently gave a great speech, but Barack Obama gave one that touched you from the tips of your toes to the edges of the hairs on your head. He spoke of hope, not a passive hope, but an active hope that will bring true change to America. It's not about the promises and whether he'll keep them all, it's about the ability to call us forward to a new day. Like JFK or Bobby Kennedy, Obama spoke to hearts and like a preacher pulled us forward.

"We are one Nation and one peole and the time for change has come!"

"We are choosing hope over fear . .. . change is coming to America!

So, watch and listen to this call to action!
