Randy Johnson -- 300 Wins

I feel the need to interject a bit of sporting news into this otherwise theologically/politically driven blog. A bit of history happened yesterday as Randy Johnson won his 300th game -- in a Giants uniform. He's the 24th person to do so, and possibly the last. Yesterday, pitching against the Washington Nationals (the team that drafted him while still the Montreal Expos). How full circle is that?

Now Johnson is only in his first year with the Giants and likely will go into the Hall of Fame with a different hat on, hey made history in a Giants uniform. While the pitching stars of this team are Matt Cain (he won the second game of a double header to go 7-1) and Tim Lincecum, Johnson provides a bit of wisdom and age to a youngish rotation. He may not be the Johnson who won Cy Young Awards, but it appears that he pitched masterfully, and we can celebrate the achievement.

Of course the most momentous moment in Johnson's career -- at least from a fan's perspective -- has to be that All Star Game when Johnson's pitch sailed up and behind Jon Kruk's head. At that Kruk switched sides of the plate, turned his helmet around, and continued batting from the other side. It was quite a scene. That was one I saw -- I didn't see the time his pitch killed a sea gull.

Anyway, what a career. That he'll close it out as a Giant (whenever that happens -- probably when Madison Bumgartner is ready to pitch full time in the majors) is a benefit to a storied franchise. Now, if we can just win that World Series!
