Pipe Organs as a Niche Market -- Sightings (Martin Marty)
It is possible that the organ has its day. It is often referred to as the King of Instruments because of its size and power and expression. But, for many it is at best an acquired taste. I happen to enjoy the organ, and at Central Woodward Christian Church, a few years back we installed a new Allen electronic organ to replace an aging pipe organ designed for a different building. Our new instrument provides a sound that one probably has to be an organist to know that it's running without pipes. Of course, we attached some of the old pipes to the new organ, so if we desire we can go full strength. Martin Marty, who is an organ enthusiast opines about the niche in which the organ fits. It may be a smaller number, but it still its place. I invite to you read and consider the question of how the organ might contribute to beauty and perhaps assist (when well played and in good condition) Christian worship.
