Giants Win Opening Day!!!!

Okay, it's not "Giants Win the Pennant," but it's nice to be 1-0 to open the season. There are still 161 games, but hey the Giants did it in unusual fashion (at least unusual for what is expected of them this year), with hitting. They had 3 home runs, a triple, and a double. The triple and double came from their new infield corners -- Travis Ishikawa and Pablo Sandoval.

They won despite having a bad outing from reigning Cy Young winner Tim Lincecum -- probably affected by the rain delay.

If I may take a moment to reflect on baseball -- I am very hopeful about 2009. No, I don't expect them to go to the World Series (Ala Rays). But I think this new raft of younger players will provide both excitement and improvement. And, down below this level, especially at single A and double A, there are some very good players. I think we're kind of where we were in 1986, only with better pitching. Remember in 1986 we went from 100 losses to being above 500. In 1987 we won the division -- 1989 to the series. That was the Will Clark era, and a grand era it was!

So, go Giants!!!
