2009 Inspiration Awards -- for Inspirational Bloggers

I started blogging in December 2006, so it's been a bit over 2 years that this little outlet has been in existence. I've commented on all number of things, ranging from baseball to theology, from politics to films. The title of the blog may seem a bit misleading, considering the range of comments I make. And yet, all of this is done as part of a faith journey. It is my collection of thoughts along the way. I've enjoyed sharing them with you -- although my wife is a bit concerned about this habit!

Anyway, Brad Hart, a contributor to the always lively American Creation blog named this blog as one of six most inspirational blogs. I understand that this little award is making the rounds, and I'm pleased to receive it. I appreciate your confidence in my abilities. Brad writes of this blog:

Pastor Cornwall's blog is an ELEGANT mixture of history, religion, politics and personal reflection, all of which provides the reader with a delicious cornucopia of intellectual sophistication!

Wow, even I'm impressed! But humbled as well.

My job then is to name 5 to 7 blogs that I consider inspirational to me. This is a difficult matter to undertake. To name just five. That's not easy. But here goes -- my top five most inspirational blogs:

1. Theolog --- It is possible that I pick this blog, currently edited by Steve Thorngate, because I occasionally write for it. That is probably the case, but the blog, originally created by Jason Byassee, offers an excellent variety of bloggers that include Christian Century staff and then others like me. It is well edited -- let me assure you of that. But it also offers important insight into matters of faith and practice. So, this is choice number 1.

2. Exploring our Matrix --- This blog, written by James McGrath, a religion professor at Butler University, is an amazing mix of biblical, religious, and sci-fi commentary. James knows his stuff and lays it out with great wit. Anyone who can keep ahead of the curve on LOST, deserves respect!

3. Chrisendom --- Chris Tilling, returned to London from Germany, keeps his finger on the pulse of biblical studies and theological issues. I don't always understand the goings on between him and Jim West, but then I've not read West's blog. But this is something worth paying attention to.

4. Levellers -- Michael Westmoreland-White and I share similar interests and passions -- only he's more passionate about them. Michael is committed to peace and justice and the gospel. I've appreciated his challenges to me and wish to honor him for his good work.

5. Religion in American History -- It's difficult to name just 5, but I'm limiting myself to these five. The final blog is team-written. It's focused on American religious history -- and as a historian myself, I have to give honor where honor is due, to my fellow historians. This particular blog numbers among its contributors some of the finest younger historians of American religion -- including Ed Blum, Matt Sutton, John Pahl, and many more. It's always lively and always fascinating. Whatever you're interests, in time you will find something that catches your eye!

So, to these five blogs, I offer my commendation. Continue on the good work! And, once again, Brad, thanks for the recognition. You folks do good work at American Creation!

I'm honored, Bob! I may just be louder rather than more passionate. It's a Baptist thin.
