Happy 150 to my Oregon Home!

150 years ago today, I just learned this morning, on the way to Elders meeting, the state of Oregon was born. Yes, on Valentines day in 1859, Oregon left behind territorial status and became a full fledged state! So, here goes: Happy sesquicentennial Oregon!

I moved to Oregon in August 1967. I was just 9 and heading into 4th grade. In 1967 my new hometown, Klamath Falls, was celebrating its centennial. I remember this well because my mother got a part in a centennial musical theater production called "Oregon, My Oregon." She was busy playing a pioneer woman -- and I got to have a cameo role as a pioneer child. That was just eight years after Oregon had celebrated it's centennial.

So, today, as my adopted "home state" (I was born in California), the place where I went to school from 4th grade through High School and on to college celebrates it's big day, though I'm living in Michigan, and have lived much of my life in California, I celebrate this event as an Oregonian in my heart! At least for today!!!
