Reflections on the Inauguration

One of your young adults, Bethany Moekler, just graduated from college and took a job in Washington, D.C. Living in the city, she was able to take part in the Inauguration. What an opportunity.

Anyway, here are Bethany's thoughts about her experience on January 20, 2009.

During the week leading up to January 20th, 2009, Washington DC was buzzing with energy. People came from all over the country and all over the world. There was a atmosphere of hope and friendship. Both residents of the city and visitors to the city were friendly and helpful. At the Sunday Concert I was standing next to my fellow Americans I knew this was something special. Standing there singing, talking, and shivering but above all realizing the historical moment taking place.

On Inauguration Day, my cousins and I woke up early, dressed in multiple layers and headed downtown with millions of others. Yes it was cold, yes there was a lot of walking and standing, but it was worth the historical moment. Seeing the first black president taking the oath of office. It was incredible feeling be a witness to history and feeling the positive energy in a crowd of 2 million people.

It was a great experience... Something I will never forget!
