Carnations from Gaza

Hey, some good news from Gaza. Israel is letting them export 25,000 carnations to Europe. Of course this is way down from the 60 million or so from years before, but apparently these are the first exports allowed since last Valentines Day.

Now we can look at this news in two ways. On one hand we could celebrate a thaw, but on the other we could wonder about the way Israel has choked off Gaza. Gaza has no access to the world, except through Israel. Israel controls all borders, including the sea and air.

Now, with a right leaning government in the offing for Israel that would seem to get worse rather than better. Here in America we celebrate our freedom. We supposedly have spent the last 7 years in Iraq bringing freedom there -- as well as in Afghanistan. But for the Palestinians no freedom appears in sight.

But at least some Europeans will get some carnations fresh for Valentines!

Excellent post! Thanks for 'bringing it home' so as to speak. More people need to realize the urgent attention that the Palestinians need.
