Transforming Theology

I was invited by Tripp Fuller of Homebrewed Christianity to participate in a project that he is coordinating -- Transforming Theology. It is an effort to make progressive Christian theology not only relevant to churches, but allow it to transform the church and the world. I appreciate the invitation, which involves doing a bit of reading and blogging about that reading.

My task is to comment on a book by one of the participating theologians in this effort -- and my assignment is a formidable one. I am called to work through Philip Clayton's Adventures in the Spirit: God, World, Divine Action, (Fortress, 2008). The book is a series of essays, largely published elsewhere, but now gathered together by Zachary Simpson, book editor. So, watch for this in the coming weeks. I think I may blog this chapter by chapter rather than simply writing a review after finishing it, with a summation at the end.

With that said, I thought I'd include this introductory video from the Rekindling Theological Reflection blog site. The person speaking is Philip Clayton and he offers what I think is an insightful statement on the purpose and value of progressive theology. I found another clip that I'll add later.
