Netanyahu's Principles and Reality

In following the news in Israel today, I checked in with the Israeli paper Haaretz, which features an op-ed by Gideon Levy -- challenging Benyamin Netanyahu to build that right wing coalition, the one that will allow him to pursue an agenda that includes possibly bombing Iran, annexing the Palestinian territories permanently, and more. He challenges Netanyahu to put his money where his mouth is. He also suggests that Netanyahu wants a broad coalition with Kadima and Labor to hold him back. Levy suggests that Kadima and Labor not join -- let Netanyahu show his colors so Israel understands that his vision is a disastrous one.

Netanyahu's vision is not one of peace, it's about annexation and expansion. That will not lead to peace. Pray for the region!

The U.S. should openly push for a 2-state solution and do so with some teeth: threaten to withold military aid from Israel if it balks.

I remember Netanyahu's last term as PM: He was so warlike that Ariel Sharon, a war criminal, was able to paint himself as a man of peace alternative--and the Israelis went for Sharon.
