New Rules for Muslim/Jewish/May I add Christian Conversation

Eboo Patel has laid out 3 rules for status quo relationships between Jews and Muslims. These rules are meant to keep things as they are -- which means not talking about or doing anything about difficult issues.

Then he offers four new rules that might lead to a solution.

Rule No. 1: Make your first phone calls to the people who disagree with you on the current situation, but who agree with you on the basic outlines of a long-term solution - two states, with security and dignity for all.

Rule No. 2: Acknowledge the real issues on the other side.

Rule No. 3: Recognize that certain players who claim to be on "your side" are part of the problem.

Rule No. 4: The politics of the Middle East is about where your family is.

I do think we must speak out on the essential nature of these issues, but we needn't simply talk to those who agree with us. But we must come to an agreement that a solution is necessary. We can not go on like this for generations after generations.

Take a look at what Eboo has to say and then come back and offer your thoughts.
