Father Damien almost a saint

Back during my college days I was taking a History of Mission's class. My professor -- Herb Works -- shared with us a biography he'd picked up on a trip to Hawaii. It was a biography of Father Damien, the Belgian priest who spent his life, and died, caring for the lepers of Molokai -- becoming a leper himself.

Having read the bio, I became a fan of Fr. Damien. That the Vatican might declare him a saint is a pretty good thing. I don't think the "miracles" are necessary, of course, just his life, his willingness to share in the misery of his charges, is sufficient for that. But, having said this, I think the Vatican is on the right course!
