Hillary's Future -- Jeff Greenfield's take

I've always liked Jeff Greenfield. Maybe that's because he's a fellow Santa Barbaran (I even exercised with him on occasion at a local gym -- no I didn't introduce myself). So, here's his take this morning as to Hillary's future, and the realism among many of her supporters.

Dear friend--I, too, am hopeful of an Obama presidency. Yet I must issue a caution: Progressive Christians, such as me, can be seduced into believing that somehow such an occurrence is in the service of the gospel. It is not. The coming of the Basileia on earth as it is in heaven is a result of communities of faith transforming society on the basis of love and sacrificial good works. The world as God desires it will not be ushered in on the basis of the ballot box, but on human transformation of their spirits. The Obamas of the world can be such people, but they cannot achieve the good by means of coercive power, such as majority rule, where there are still winners and losers. No nation, including America, will ever achieve the egalitarian society that is the vision of God through political means. This is left up to nothing short of wholesale transformation of the human spirit. Puting too much hope in an Obama presidency is a serious distraction from the pursuit that matters most. Maybe that's why God invented separation of church and state?

Steve,

As always, words of wisdom. I am hopeful that Barack Obama can take the country in a new direction, but I don't put my hope in him! Thanks,
