One America -- An Edwards Endorsement

The long anticipated and long sought after endorsement came today in Grand Rapids. John Edwards, the former VP candidate, has chosen a most auspicious moment to endorse Barack Obama. A day after Hillary Clinton won a landslide victory in WV and as she was taking her victory lap, Edwards gave a stirring, populist speech, focusing on the need to become "One America," and in doing so gave his strong endorsement to Barack Obama.

Edwards, who took in 7% of the vote in WV last night, could provide an important assist in next week's Kentucky primary. My hope is that they will make a barnstorming campaign through the region, and cut into Hillary's lead. A win in Oregon and a close finish in Kentucky might clinch things.

I don't know if Edwards wants to take another VP run, but he might be a good choice. He has populist credentials with the people Obama is having difficulty reaching. He's a good campaigner. So, who knows.

Having supported Edwards in 04, I'm glad to have him on the team.

I don't think there's enough time for Edwards to help with Eastern KY before Tues, but he should help in the Fall if he campaigns for Obama. I think he would be a great VP choice, although I worry about Elizabeth's health. This was one of his great speeches. As an economic populist myself, I loved every minute.
